Applied Behavioral Analysis and Programs in Support of Children with Autism

We work closely with community public schools in their efforts to serve children with autism within their districts by providing specialized services directly to those students. We provide supervised behavior therapists and on-site clinical coordination for the program. In working directly with families, teachers, and school administrators, we can ensure a high level of consistency and quality in the delivery of comprehensive and empirically validated instruction and behavior supports to children in their home schools. Children may be served in integrated classrooms or in non-integrated classrooms while they work toward inclusion. In addition to the services offered in the school setting, we can also provide direct instruction in the child’s home, to maximize the effectiveness of the services. Through the Pupil Planning and Placement Team (PPT) process, specific services are mandated to ensure a comprehensive and effective educational program. We can provide one or more of the following services and supports:

  • Conduct assessments across settings (curriculum, environmental, interest and preference, behavioral)
  • Assist in Individual Educational Plan (IEP) development
  • Develop/modify instructional and behavior support plans
  • Develop data collection systems
  • Train educational staff and family members
  • Purchase curriculum materials and reinforcers
  • Monitor student progress and assist in program modifications
  • Facilitate inclusion efforts
  • Assist in coordination across school & home settings

The ABA/Autism Program Approach We believe that each child is unique and therefore requires individualized attention and supports.  Through comprehensive assessments of skills and behaviors across settings, the clinical team can design a system of instruction and supports to meet each child’s educational, behavioral, and academic needs. Our Autism Services focus on teaching adaptive behaviors that replace those that interfere with learning and socialization while increasing the child’s skills in the following areas:

  • Academics
  • Communication
  • Self help
  • Play
  • Gross and fine motor development
  • Social interaction

Through the use of the principles of applied behavior analysis, and with a focus on discrete trial instruction, clinical staff and behavior therapists strive to maximize the child’s ability to communicate and to learn traditional academic skills and to develop appropriate social behaviors to facilitate inclusion in school and community settings.
