The Institute is pleased to introduce Lou Giramma who will serve as Massachusetts's State Director

Lou Giramma, M.Ed., recently joined the Institute as the Massachusetts State Director. He is responsible for the overall operation of programs and services provided by The Institute statewide. Lou brings with him a solid and distinguished leadership background in the field of developmental and psychiatric disabilities. In a career that has spanned over 25 years Lou has worked with a number of  human service and educational organizations. Former positions include; Director of Admissions and Marketing, Director of Placement Services, Administrative Director, and Director of Program Services. Lou is a committed advocate who focuses on the growth and development of client's emotional and physical well-being.  Since 2010 he has voluntarily served as a Peer Reviewer for the Council of Accreditation (COA) in New York which partners with human service organizations worldwide to improve service delivery outcomes by developing, applying and promoting accreditation standards. Lou received his bachelor's degree in history and sociology from Marlboro College, Marlboro, VT and a master's degree in Education from Antioch University, Keene, NH.

The Institute's Gina Bartlow of the Twin Rivers Associates Program in Stratham, NH named ANCOR's 2011 Direct Support Professional of the Year!

ANCOR - (American Network of Community Options and Resources) is a nonprofit trade association representing and advocating on behalf of the more than 800 private providers of services and supports for nearly 500,000 Americans with disabilities that employ over 400,000 direct support staff in 49 states and Washington, D.C. ANCOR's efforts in the area of public policy, federal legislative and regulatory initiatives, judicial results, state-level initiatives and the culling of leading practices have uniquely positioned it as the national presence for private providers. Congress and federal agencies turn to ANCOR as the authority in our profession. ANCOR has always been and will continue to be your eyes, ears, and voice in Washington, DC. Through ANCOR's Direct Support Professional Recognition Contest, the best of the best are recognized and awarded the title of Direct Support Professional of the Year for their respective state. Additionally, one recipient is chosen as the National Direct Support Professional of the Year: the best of the best of the best. This year's recipient Gina Bartlow is a lead senior instructor at Twin Rivers Associates in Stratham, New Hampshire.

The Durham Center for Education in Massachusetts receives state accreditation 

The Durham Center for Education located in Westminster, MA, formerly the Center for Education, has been renamed in honor of George M. Durham, the Institute's Vice President of Program Administration and one of the co-founders. The Durham Center is pleased to announce it's accreditation approval by the Massachusetts Department of Early and Secondary Education as a private, not-for-profit, 766 special education school. The Durham Center for Education is a private special education school that supports students with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disabilities and social skills deficits.  National Autism Center releases National Standards

The National Autism Center has completed the National Standards Project, launched in 2005, and published the National Standards Report
which covers a broad range of applied treatments and identifies the level of scientific evidence available for each. The project provides
critical information about which treatments have been shown to be effective. The report will serve as a single, authoritative source
of guidance for parents, caregivers, educators and service providers as they make informed treatment decisions.
