About I.P.P. - Maryland
The Institute’s most recent endeavor is the development of a service network in the state of Maryland, operating under the name of Mid-Atlantic Human Services Corporation (a division of The Institute). In December of 1998, Mid-Atlantic assumed the responsibility for the operation of three alternative living units for children and young adults who are technology dependent and medically fragile. Initially pioneered by the Kennedy-Krieger Institute, these homes provide alternative living options for twelve youth and young adults who experience medical conditions that were once only managed in hospital settings.
In the following years since this project began, we have assumed the responsibility for five additional small community based homes for people with disabilities. We also have taken on the responsibility for day programs for a number of people and have developed several individualized settings for youth and adults with complex medical and behavioral needs. We plan to continue to expand our services for the individual who is medically fragile or behaviorally challenged and to develop a therapeutic foster care network for youth with complex needs as well.
