About I.P.P. - Connecticut
The Institute began operating in Connecticut during the
winter of 1986, opening our first facility in the fall of that year. Our
presence in the state came at the request of the Commissioner of Mental
Retardation, who was faced with the settlement of a Federal lawsuit
requiring the State to develop a wide array of community-based services.
Our history and reputation for providing high quality services to
individuals with a wide range of disabilities in community settings made
us a natural choice to assist the State in fulfilling its legal
responsibilities. During our fifteen-year history in the state, The
Institute has continued to expand in size and in the breadth of services
offered. In more recent years we have affiliated with other service
providers in Connecticut, including joining forces with The Employment
Development Center (EDC), which became our subsidiary in 1999.
Of the hundred or so human service agencies in the state, we
are now the fourth largest provider holding service contracts with
the Department of Mental Retardation. We also contract with Department of
Children and Families (DCF) and Social Services.
